Unikko Takes Shape as Modern Silver Jewelry

Marimekko and Kalevala Launch a Limited-Edition Collaboration Collection

Finnish design house Marimekko and Finnish jewelry company Kalevala Koru are pleased to announce they have teamed up to create a limited-edition collaboration collection, applying Marimekko’s art of printmaking to timeless Kalevala jewelry. Available now, the collection includes a wide assortment of jewelry from necklaces and earrings to a brooch and minimalistic ear cuff. The pieces, made of recycled silver, were inspired by Marimekko’s iconic Unikko pattern, celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.

“Our collaboration with Kalevala has been a very inspiring experience. Unikko is an iconic pattern, and it has been in many different forms and different places throughout the years. So, it was a joy to discover how unique, surprising, and even sculptural Unikko became through Kalevala’s design language and craftsmanship. I believe that our customers will be excited about the versatile assortment and will find their own favorites,” says Emmakaisa Kirves, Marimekko’s Design Director, Ready-to-Wear and Bags & Accessories.
“Both Kalevala and Marimekko are leaders in their own fields and strong innovators of Finnish design; Marimekko through the art of printmaking and Kalevala in jewelry design by expressing strong and sculptural stories. This limited-edition collaboration collection brought together each brand’s strengths, and the result is an assortment of timeless and three dimensional Unikko-themed jewelry. Through this collaboration collection we look to the future and celebrate design and craftmanship,” says Kalevala Koru’s Creative Director Aino Ahlnäs.

The Marimekko x Kalevala collection includes rings, necklaces, earrings, a brooch, and an ear cuff. The products are made from recycled silver at Kalevala Koru’s factory in Helsinki, Finland and their light weight makes wearing the pieces pleasant throughout the day.
