Marimekko Marimini: A Classic Silhouette for the Summer

Finnish lifestyle design brand Marimekko is renowned for its joyful dresses that combine a contemporary feeling with timelessness. This summer, the lifestyle design house highlights the Marimekko Marimini, an archival A-line minidress that first captured attention in the 1960s when Jackie Kennedy wore the silhouette on the cover of Sports Illustrated. According to sources of the time, Kennedy bought at least seven Marimekko dresses, which brought wide recognition to the bold and joyful designs.

Marimekko Marimini embodies the brand’s optimistic lifestyle philosophy — it is a dress to lounge in, run in, bike in, and dance in.

“Marimekko Marimini is the latest addition to our archetypal silhouettes that have been designed so our customers can rediscover their perfect fit in Marimekko collections year after year in new and imaginative color and print combinations. It is a modern take on Marimekko’s timeless A-line minidresses from the 1960s, and it offers a new and playful take on using the dress as a canvas for our art of printmaking,” says Rebekka Bay, Creative Director, Marimekko.

In the Spring/Summer 2025 collection, Marimini dresses feature both classic and contemporary floral prints—a motif that Marimekko is highlighting in its collections throughout the year. The print designs include Perenna by Fujiwo Ishimoto and the classic Unikko by Maija Isola. Some of the Marimekko Marimini dresses are sewn using the whole width of the fabric, making each such dress a unique work of art while also minimizing waste.

The Marimini is also available in a range of prints designed by London-based Swedish artist Petra Börner as the latest installment in the Marimekko Artist Series. This series invites emerging and celebrated artists to create wearable works of art using the dress as a canvas, bridging art and fashion. Known for her expressive, hand-drawn lines and dynamic use of color across various mediums, Petra has created two exclusive floral artworks for the Marimini.

“Marimekko Marimini is truly the hero of summer 2025, and beyond. It is the perfect silhouette that works on different body shapes, and it is easy to style with layering while also working as a showstopper by itself. I am very excited to see how our customers will style these dresses and make it their own,” Bay adds.

Marimekko Marimini dresses are available in different styles in Marimekko stores and online with new styles dropping each month.
