Marimekko Announces Spring/Summer 2025 Ready to Wear Collection
For Spring/Summer 2025, Finnish design house Marimekko explores The Anatomy of a Flower – an over-arching conceptual theme that is celebrated in Marimekko collections throughout 2025. At Marimekko, floral patterns symbolize joy, iridescence, and timeless beauty. The SS25 collection explores this theme through a visual exploration of nature’s florals bursting into full high summer bloom.
“For Spring/Summer 2025, we celebrate some of Marimekko’s lesser-known floral subjects from our biggest source of inspiration: the vast Marimekko print archive. The floral theme is also evident in techniques in the collection – petal-like references in draping and layering of the silhouettes as well as bold circle cuts and round shapes will fold and unfold around the body like blooming flowers”, says Emmakaisa Kirves, Design Director for Ready-to-Wear and Bags & Accessories at Marimekko.
Seasonal prints & colors
For Spring/Summer 2025, Marimekko presents an entire bouquet of abstract floral patterns from renowned Marimekko designers Fujiwo Ishimoto, Maija Isola and Lotta Maija. The collection highlights functional summer pieces from co-ord sets to breezy dresses in feminine florals and contradicting bold graphic prints. The color palette for Spring/Summer 2025 features watered-down aqua blues, rosy reds and cool spearmints, accompanied by tiger lily oranges and delicate lilacs. Bold stripes, such as Galleria by Vuokko Eskolin-Nurmesniemi and Raita by Annika Rimala create a happy contradiction with the otherwise abstract floral universe.
Marimekko Artist Series: Petra Börner
The highlight of Marimekko’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection is a capsule collection showcasing four exclusive artworks by London-based Swedish artist Petra Börner, whose works have been translated into pieces of wearable art at Marimekko’s own textile printing factory in Helsinki. The capsule presents carefully curated dress canvases for Börner's beautiful floral universe, in which her unique way of using colors as a backdrop for her line drawings creates a vivid reflection of the lively nature of flowers and other subjects.
The collaboration with Börner marks the latest addition to the Marimekko Artist Series, which invites emerging and celebrated artists to collaborate on exclusive Marimekko capsule collections. The collection featuring Börner’s artworks extends across Marimekko’s entire lifestyle portfolio from ready-to-wear to bags & accessories and home décor. Börner’s artworks featured in the collection are titled: Eldfamn, Baluns, Cactis and Blombom.
Introducing the new Marimekko archetype dress silhouette
For Spring/Summer 2025, Marimekko reenergizes one of its archival dress silhouettes to become a future hero of its dress selection. The modern take on the timeless mini dress, Marimini, will be a key element of the Spring/Summer 2025 collection with several printed styles introduced, ranging from the beloved Unikko pattern to other contemporary prints. Marimekko’s archetype silhouettes have been designed so that each customer can rediscover their perfect fit in Marimekko collections year after year in new and imaginative color and print combinations.
New drop added to Marimekko Maridenim
The Spring/Summer 2025 collection features new styles in the Marimekko Maridenim assortment. The new drop brings fresh denim styles for summer living, including denim shorts, denim skirts and denim jackets. All Marimekko Maridenim products are made following The Jeans Redesign guidelines by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and take into account the requirements of the circular economy.
Collection materials
Marimekko’s design philosophy and operations have always been based on a sustainable approach: we want to provide our customers with timeless, functional and high-quality products that bring them long-lasting joy. A record-high number of products in the Spring/Summer 2025 collection have been made using organic, recycled or innovative materials following our ambitious sustainability strategy. As an example, Marimekko has continued to work with its closed loop production partner Pedrosa & Rodrigues to create new Tasaraita jersey shirts that have been made from 40 percent recycled fibers – the red color in the shirts is the result of using repurposed jersey cutting waste from Marimekko’s own textile production instead of dye. Marimekko has also worked with Nature Coatings’ BioBlack TX pigment, which is a 100 percent bio-based dye made from certified recycled wood waste. The innovative dye has been used in the pigment for Vihne T-shirts.
