Marimekko Announces Spring/Summer 2024 Home Collection
For Spring/Summer 2024, Finnish design house Marimekko explores the idea of doing more with less. The year 2024 will mark the 60th anniversary of Marimekko’s most iconic and globally recognized print: Unikko. Designed by Maija Isola in 1964, the Unikko print has since become an international icon of print design. For Spring/Summer 2024, the iconic Unikko print will be ever-present in more ways than ever, including scale, placement, coloring, and techniques.
Unikko 60th Anniversary Products
In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Unikko print, Marimekko introduces a special anniversary year product line, featuring an exciting new anniversary colorway. The Spring/Summer 2024 collection plays with scale, placement, and size of the Unikko flower, seen across ceramics and home textiles. The anniversary line is full of fun new objects to dress the home, including Unikko-shaped plates and collectible jars with a Unikko lid. All Unikko 60th anniversary products will include special labelling and new packaging.
Seasonal Prints & Colors
The Spring/Summer 2024 collection references the first foliage of spring as well as nature’s own sophisticated primary colors. As the season evolves, lighter shades of buttery yellows and whites grow in depth and once the summer season starts, the colors are in full bloom with joyful yellow, coral red, leaf green and apricot.
The hero of the Spring/Summer 2024 print selection is of course the Unikko, which comes in multiple scales ranging from mini to abstract. The iconic print is reimagined in completely new forms, which include Piirto Unikko (drawing poppy) and Vesi Unikko (water poppy).
To compliment the season's hero print, young print designer Antti Kekki created two completely new prints inspired by Unikko: Siirto and Seppel (wreath). Other seasonal prints include Kukka (flower) by Annika Rimala, Melooni (melon) by Maija Isola, Alku (beginning) by Maija Louekari and Tiiliskivi (brick) by Armi Ratia.
Collection Materials
For the Spring/Summer 2024 collection, Marimekko continues to work with organic and recycled materials to reduce the number of conventional materials used in its collections. For instance, the Unikko cosmetic bag and Unikko cushion cover and seating pad are made from 100% recycled polyester and in bath products, 79% of all the cotton used is organic. Many of the textiles in theSpring/Summer 2024 home collection have been printed on unbleached fabric in Marimekko’s own textile printing factory in Helsinki. Altogether, 42% of all cotton used in the home collection is organic.
The Pre-Spring 2024 collection will also feature the second drop of the Syksy glassware series designed by Swedish designer Matti Klenell. The new drop features a glass plate and bowl in Klenell’s signature style. The first products of the Syksy glass series were launched in Fall 2023.
