Marimekko Announces Fall/Winter 2024 RTW Collection
In 2024, Finnish design house Marimekko celebrates the 60th anniversary of Unikko, one of the most recognized print designs in the world of fashion and art. Unikko, born from the creative mind of Maija Isola in 1964, has transcended borders to become an international icon.

For Fall/Winter 2024, Finnish design house Marimekko explores the relationship between Unikko, an abstraction of a flower, with monolithic architecture and materials that are often associated with a more utilitarian mood. Throughout the year, Marimekko has explored the print in conversation with topics and visual cues that are surprising, even unexpected, and the Fall/Winter 2024 collection marks its grand finale.
Thematically, the Fall/Winter 2024 collection plays with the idea of dressing up and dressing down, demonstrating how bold prints and colors can be styled to fit a range of personalities, emotions, and occasions. The collection presents delicate floral prints and utilitarian nuances that are presented in both timeless dress silhouettes and hardworking everyday staples.
"For the Fall/Winter 2024 season, we create a captivating play between opposites: past and present, concrete and delicate, and the idea of dressing up and dressing down," says Rebekka Bay, Creative Director at Marimekko. "The collection combines elevated materials like soft cashmere with architectural 3D appliqué detailing and shiny metallics. Rich tones of brown and burgundy meet with cement greys, warm tones of blush, soft pink, and accents of crispy yellow. Each piece in the collection has been designed to blend effortlessly together from day to night and from everyday elegance to feeling festive."
Collection Materials
The Fall/Winter 2024 collection features new wool products made partly from recycled wool. For instance, the new Askelma and Formaali wool coats are made from 70 percent Manteco’s Mwool, which is obtained by mechanically recycling pre- and post-consumer garments. The climate impact of Mwool is approximately 90 percent lower compared with average virgin sheep wool. Additionally, the Valu, Voima and Vinni wool knits are made from 50 percent recycled wool and 50 percent loose fibers from yarn making. The wool in these knits is made of pre-consumer wool scraps in Italy and manufactured in Romania. All down coats in the collection are made with 100 percent recycled polyester and certified down and feathers.
